Maine driver killed in head-on collision with dump truck

MORRILL, Maine - A Belmont man was killed on Wednesday after his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a dump truck.
The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. when Maine State Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 3. The investigation revealed that Nicholas Day, 34, of Belmont, was traveling west on route 3 and crossed the center line into an oncoming loaded dump truck. Day was determined to have died at the scene.

The operator of the dump truck was a Eugene Hyde, 31, from Wilton, owned and operated by C.H Stevenson out of Wayne. The investigation is still ongoing, but speed and alcohol are not seen as factors in the crash.
Route 3 was shut down for eight hours.
