AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine Governor Janet Mills on Monday issued a stay at home order to all Mainers that prohibits travel outside the home except for "essential personal activities like buying groceries or pharmaceuticals, exercising, providing care to another person or commuting to an "essential job."
The order takes effect on Thursday.
Maine has thus far seen 303 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and five deaths.
The order also limits the number of customers who can be in convenience stores to five, supermarkets to 75 and big box stores to 100.
Larger supermarkets are also required to fit cashier stations with protective shields.
All stores are ordered to enforce six-foot social distancing protocols.
Anyone violating the orders can be prosecuted with up to a six-month jail stay and $1,000 fine.
