Maine man killed when booby trap gun device accidentally discharges

VAN BUREN, Maine - Police say a Maine man died when a booby trap handgun device he had for home security accidentally discharged.

Ronald Cyr, 65, called 911 after he was shot by the device, which was designed to fire when someone opened his front door, police say.

Bomb squad technicians were called in after officers found other "unknown devices" in the home that were suspicious.

Cyr was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Van Buren is located in Aroostook County on the Canadian border.
