Maine motorcyclist dies in collision with SUV in Cornish

CORNISH, Maine - A Baldwin man died on Sunday morning when his motorcycle collided with an SUV.

The crash occurred around 9;20 a.m. at the intintersection of Route 5 (Sokokis Trail) and Route 25 (Maple Street), according to a press release from the York County Sheriff's Office.

A preliminary investigation showed that John Washington, 32, from Baldwin was operating a 2006 Honda CBR motorcycle on Maple Street when it collided with a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Sheila Beal, 70, from Newfield.

Washington, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Beal and her passenger were not injured.

The crash is being reconstructed by the Gorham Police Department as the investigation continues.

The intersection remained closed for about four hours.
