SPRINGVALE, Maine -A Limerick teenager was arraigned in Springvale District Court on Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a Newfield marijuana grow house last week.
The incident unfolded around 5 p.m. on Friday when deputies responded to the 200 block of Wakefield Road in Newfield for a report of a burglary in progress at the grow house. The owner was watching the property remotely and contacted the York County Sheriff's office when he noticed an unauthorized person, wearing a mask, had cut a hole in the side of the building and had accessed the building through the hole.
Deputies arrived on scene and set up a containment perimeter, assisted by two Game Wardens who were in the area and heard the call. Upon checking the building, it appeared the subject had fled prior to law enforcement arrival.
Investigators found a large hole cut into the side of the main building and several other buildings that had also been forced open. There were no plants currently inside the main grow operation building, just grow equipment.
Deputies then found foot tracks left in the snow that appeared to go off into the woods and staked out a truck that had been suspiciously parked nearby on Wakefield Road in Newfield.
Soon after deputies encountered Joseph Dandreo, 19, of Limerick, walking toward the truck. A quick investigation showed Dandreo had walked through the woods in the direction of the burglarized marijuana grow business. He was charged with burglary, violating conditions of release, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.
An arraignment on Tuesday resulted in a $500 cash bail being set.
