ROCHESTER - Two Lafayette Street residents have been arrested after police were called to investigate an apparent shooting there Wednesday night.

Officers responded to the area of Lafayette Street and Moores Court around 10 p.m. where a fight involving several people had been reported. An individual then called police to say one of those involved may have a gun and later that someone had fired a weapon.

When police arrived they were told three or four of those involved had left the scene, which displayed evidence of shots fired, police said.

Police then issued a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) for a white late model Chevy Blazer type vehicle with loud exhaust in which some of the subject involved left in before police arrived.

As a result of their investigation, Police arrested James Belanger, 21, of Lafayette Street in Rochester, for two counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon (both felony offenses). Belanger was held on $500 cash bail and scheduled to be arraignment today at 12:30 pm.

Also arrested was Kathleen Belanger, 60, of Lafayette St., for falsifying physical evidence (B Felony). Kathleen Belanger was bailed and released on personal recognizance. She is scheduled to be arraigned next month in Strafford County Superior Court.

Police are still looking to locate and identify everyone involved and are actively investigating the incident, which resulted in no injuries, police said. Police believe those involved are known to each other and there is no danger to the public.
