DOVER, N.H. - A Rochester man has been indicted for allegedly giving Clonazepam to a girl barely 12 and then trying to get her to change her story during the investigation.

Todd Caswell, 36, of 3 Daniel Court, is charged with felony witness tampering and a Special Felony for administering the drug to the girl who was under his care at the time.

Clonazepam, also known as Klonopin, is a muscle relaxant used for treatment of epilepsy and panic attacks among other disorders.

Caswell said he gave it to the girl to "calm her down because she was acting out of control," according to police.

Caswell was arrested on the drug charge in August and the witness tampering charge in January.

Both felonies carry enhanced penalties of up to seven to 14 years in state prison apiece.

The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down May 14 and released on Tuesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
