ROCHESTER - Some half dozen Rochester Police squad cars and officers responded Thursday evening during an apparent rampage by a city man that began on Academy Street then moved to Parson Main Square and ultimately Wakefield Street where he was heard still screaming at officers as he was placed in a cruiser.

Rochester Police Capt. Gary Boudreau said it all began around 6 p.m. when it was reported the man was running up and down Academy Street knocking on doors and saying he was going to kill people.

Police caught up with him at Parson Main Square where the man appeared agitated and wasn't listening to officers, Boudreau added.

At that point officers, suspecting alcohol could be a factor, attempted a field sobriety test to see if he were under the influence.

Soon after police decided to take him into custody for his own protection, but the man became combative and began fighting with officers who were trying to handcuff him.

After a short scuffle police arrested Andrew Gagnon, 39, of 22 Lafayette St., for resisting arrest and took him to Strafford County jail pending an arraignment today.
