MILTON - Two man were injured, one severely, in an explosion at a Ford Farm Road home on Saturday.

The explosion occurred around noon when one of the men was using a grinder to cut a 55-gallon drum, said Milton Fire Chief Nick Marique.

The seriously injured man sustained severe injury and burns to his forearm and was Medflighted to Maine Med in Portland. The helicopter picked the patient up after landing at the Milton Town Beach ballfield.

The explosion, which occurred at 22 Ford Farm Road, rocked the area, prompting numerous posts on social media regarding its origin.

The accident was blamed on sparks from the grinder igniting an undetermined substance inside the metal drum.

The other injured man wasn't treated at the scene but later opted to visit a local hospital.

Whether the men lived at the home or were just working there was unclear.
