DOVER, N.H. - The city man indicted in an October bank robbery at the Bank of New Hampshire on North Main Street in Rochester got a one and a half to three-year sentence in a negotiated plea on Thursday at Strafford County Superior Court.
Bart Augustus, 45, formerly of 78 Partridge Green Apartments, pleaded guilty to robbery, falsification of evidence and bail violation in connection with the case.
Police accounts and court documents allege that on Oct. 23 Augustus walked into the bank wearing a woman's dress and nylons over his head, handed a teller a note demanding cash and fled with about $2,300, which he later said he spent mostly on crack cocaine.
The following Monday he reportedly left a note at the bank saying he was sorry for his actions and later that morning confessed to his probation officer. He was arrested later in the day.
Augustus never showed or indicated he had a weapon during the heist.
The falsification of physical evidence charge is for discarding clothes he had worn during the robbery.
As part of the agreement, Augustus will receive 165 days credit for pretrial confinement and will be eligible for parole later this year. He also must get drug and alcohol treatment and pay back the money he stole from the bank.
