ROCHESTER - Marie Ponder, age 80, of Rochester died peacefully Monday, March 23, 2015, at the Rochester Manor. Marie was born August 17, 1934, in Rochester to Marjorie Plumer and Marceaux C. DeDoming. Marie grew up in Rochester, where she raised her family. Marie was active in community services and politics. She was a past president of the Raiders Mother's Club. She also found time to coach cheerleading and attended all her sons' activities. She also was an accomplished seamstress and real estate agent. She met Naval Submarine Master Chief Thomas Ponder in 1974 and together they traveled the world before later residing and South Carolina and then Connecticut where Marie and Tom were talented gardeners. There Marie found time to attend college and later proudly graduated from Norwich Technical Institute as an LPN in March of 1994. Tom and Marie later retired in Florida.
Marie leaves three sons, Donald Martin Jr and wife Gail (Taylor), Jeffery Martin and wife Diane (Pasiuk), Kevin Stanley and wife Sherrie (Mann). Marie also leaves her brothers, Guerdon King and wife Carlene, Harold King and wife Anita, sister Marcia Acker and husband Howard and sister Susan Clark. Marie also leaves grandchildren, Brent and Brett Eddy, Alexis Martin, Dallas Martin, Cole and Ross Martin, and great grandchildren Alexza and Leonardo Martin.
Marie is preceded in death by her husband Paul Stanley, husband Thomas Ponder, brother Ronald King, and sisters Mildred Dresser and Betty Cushion.
