LONDONDERRY - A New Hampshire State Police cruiser was struck while a Trooper was assisting another driver during the overnight winter storm.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday when a trooper was outside of his cruiser at the scene of a crash on Interstate 93 in Londonderry, when the driver of another vehicle lost control and crashed into the police vehicle.

It was determined that the driver, identified as Marcelo Candido de Oliveira Filho, 22, of Watertown, Mass., lost control of his 2020 Volkswagen Jetta and struck Trooper Howe's cruiser from the back. The cruiser suffered some functional damage, and the Jetta was disabled. No one was injured as a result of the crash.

Filho was issued a summons for reckless driving and must appear in Derry Circuit Court. The hearing is scheduled for April 3.

The NHSP urges all drivers to slow down and move over if they see flashing lights ahead. Whether it's a law enforcement officer, firefighter, EMT, tow truck operator, highway worker, or someone whose car has broken down, their safety depends on others' close attention and prompt action
