Meehan: Milton mutual aid pact being fine-tuned

Lebanon Fire and EMS Chief Dan Meehan

LEBANON - Lebanon Fire and EMS Chief Dan Meehan said in an email to The Lebanon Voice on Saturday that the mutual aid pact drawn up and forwarded to him by Milton Fire and Rescue Chief Nick Marique is being reviewed and some changes will be made.

"It is being fined tuned as more streets were added and in addition what calls would deem Automatic," Meehan said in the email.

"Automatic" calls refer to dispatch tones that would notify Milton to unilaterally respond in certain cases in which no go-ahead would be necessary from Lebanon Fire and EMS.

First-response calls run the gamut from A (most minor) to E (most severe).

The two towns' lack of a working mutual aid pact has been the subject of an ongoing series in The Lebanon Voice titled, "Spotlight on a flawed system."

A section of West Lebanon, known as District 6, is far closer to the Milton ambulance than Lebanon's, leaving many residents in this area of Lebanon close to the Milton line uncomfortable with the lack of such a pact.

It should be noted that a mutual aid fire agreement has been in place for several years, but a Rescue mutual aid pact has not.

Both Meehan and Marique work as full-time Rochester firefighters at the Gonic firehouse.
