Mobile home fire claims life of Claremont woman

CLAREMONT - The victim of a fire in Claremont on Thursday has been identified as Elizabeth Hopkins, 59, of Claremont.

Firefighters responded around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday to find the Stewart Avenue mobile home engulfed in flame and learned that the sole occupant was missing.

Crews worked for several hours to extinguish the fire, but due to a roof collapse, they were unable to access all areas of the home. After the fire was extinguished, fire personnel located an adult female deceased inside.

Hopkins' cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation, and the manner of death was ruled accidental, according to a Dept. of Safety release on Friday. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing.

Investigators with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. The fire is not currently considered suspicious.
