With 1 in 4 essential workers having been diagnosed with a mental health disorder since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2021's Most and Least Stressed Cities in American.
In order to determine where Americans cope best with their stress, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 41 key metrics. The data set ranges from COVID-19 cases to average weekly work hours to divorce and suicide rates.

Best vs. Worst
- Lincoln, Nebraska, has the lowest unemployment rate, 2.20 percent, which is 5.5 times lower than in Newark, New Jersey, the city with the highest at 12.20 percent.
- Fremont, California, has the lowest divorce rate, 9.21 percent, which is 4.4 times lower than in Cleveland, the city with the highest at 40.77 percent.
- Fargo, North Dakota, has the lowest share of adults in fair or poor health, 10.20 percent, which is 2.4 times lower than in El Paso, Texas, the city with the highest at 24.90 percent.
- Columbia, Maryland, has the highest median annual household income (adjusted by cost of living), $98,861, which is 3.4 times higher than in Newark, New Jersey, the city with the lowest at $28,757.
