ROCHESTER - A New Durham man is facing up to 14 years in prison on one count of theft and one count of robbery at two Rochester businesses on Feb. 23.
Jarrod Hoage 35, of New Durham, was indicted earlier this month by a Strafford County grand jury for crimes at the Nouria convenience store on Farmington Road and the downtown Rochester Subway shop.
The first theft occurred around 6 p.m. following a report of an attempted robbery at the Subway where witnesses said a male walked into the store with his face covered and demanded money, according to Rochester Police.
The male appeared as though he had something in his pocket during this incident, but when the clerk refused to give the male any money he left the store on foot in an unknown direction.
According to the charging document, "In the course of attempting to commit a theft, Jarrod T. Hoage purposely placed his hand in his shirt to create a bulge mimicking a firearm and stated words to the effect of 'I'ma not playing anymore, give me the money from the drawer,' to put another person in fear of immediate use of physical force through physical conduct."
About three hours later while still investigating the Subway incident, Rochester Police responded to the Nouria gas station on Farmington Road around 9:20 p.m. for the report of another robbery.
At the second scene police learned that a male had walked into the store, approached the counter and demanded money from the register. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash the suspect left the store in the direction of Little Falls Bridge Road, according to police.
The suspect was described exactly as the male that had just been at the Subway.
Hoage's February arrests were not his first brush with the law.
In June of 2018 Hoage, at the age of 27, was arrested in the robbery of a Northeast Credit Union branch on Columbus Avenue in Rochester.
He remains held on no bail at Strafford County Jail in Dover, jail personnel said today.

The indictments were handed down on May 14 and released on Friday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been presented to a grand jury to move forward to trial.
