ROCHESTER - A new flag pole at the Rochester Library went up on Thursday just in time for the country's Flag Day observance.

Last year, the Library Trustees asked library leaders to seek out a new flagpole, and they ultimately located an unused one standing on Wakefield Street near the City of Rochester Revenue Offices.

Workers from the Department of Public Works disassembled and painted the pole, which was installed on Thursday. Following the installation, an American flag donated by former trustee John Roese was hoisted to the top.

"I'm grateful for the work of our Public Works colleagues and to John Roese for his gift to the library," said library director Brian Sylvester. "This new flagpole will be a beautiful part of the library for years to come."

The pole and flag will be used year round, and a New Hampshire state flag and lights will be installed later this summer.
