Nighttime travel on Rt. 16 will be slowed beginning Sunday

MILTON - The New Hampshire Department of Transportation has announced on Wednesday plans for night paving work on the Spaulding Turnpike (Route 16), from mile marker 22.4, which is just north of the Exit 16 northbound on-ramp, to mile marker 28, which is just north of the Exit 17 northbound on-ramp.

Paving will begin Sunday and could take up to eight nights to complete.

Pavement grinding and paving will take place at night from Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Sunday night will begin around 9 p.m. Lane closures needed to do the work will delay northbound and southbound traffic during nighttime work hours. This work is weather dependent and could be delayed due to inclement weather.

Message boards, uniformed officers, flaggers, and traffic control devices will be used to provide advanced information and direct motorists through the work zone.

This is the first phase of a large resurfacing project that extends north past exit 18 on the Spaulding Turnpike. Pike Industries Inc. of Belmont is the general contractor for the $3.8 million project, which is scheduled for completion in September.
