SPRINGVALE, Maine - The Berwick man arrested for alleged possession of heroin after leading police on a chase from Somersworth into Maine that ended in Lebanon will be held without bail after his arraignment on the charges Monday afternoon in Springvale District Court.

Charles Bill, 33, of School Street, will be held without bail pending a dispositional conference in May at York County Superior Court in Alfred.

Bill's probation officer showed up and made the court aware Bill had been convicted in December in a robbery incident and since being released on parole had not told Maine officials his whereabouts, had failed to pay restitution and submit to substance abuse counseling.

Bill's probation was revoked and he was remanded to York County Jail till the May hearing.

On Wednesday Bill led Berwick and Maine State Police on a 40-mile chase that began in Somersworth and ended on Heath Road after Maine State Trooper Michael Lane caused Bill's 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant to spin out leading to his arrest.

Bill is also wanted out of New Hampshire on a check forgery charge.

After the arrest Bill was charged with eluding police and also aggravated trafficking in Schedule "W" Drugs for attempting to conceal more than 40 grams of heroin in a body cavity while being admitted to the York County Jail.

A female passenger in his vehicle during the arrest was initially detained but later released.
