Nonprofit aiding veterans seeks to make Commons a 'field of honor'

ROCHESTER - The Rochester-based nonprofit Vouchers for Veterans is set to create a "Veterans Field of Honor" at the Rochester Common this spring.

Organizers say the display is "dedicated to honoring and memorializing the service and the sacrifices of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
"It will be a dramatic, emotion-filled display of 500 full-size American Flags running along the perimeter and interior of the Rochester Common," said Jeanne Grover, President, Vouchers for Veterans. "Veterans are the backbone of this great nation. They fought tirelessly to protect our freedoms so that we may remain the "Land of Opportunity". They put their lives at risk, and on hold, protecting our Country from harm's way."

Vouchers for Veterans has been dedicated to assisting and recognizing Veterans since 2016.

The mission of the organization is to "show recognition and gratitude to Veterans living in New Hampshire and Maine primarily by providing them with vouchers to purchase locally grown and prepared food directly from farmers and growers at local farmers markets," according to its website. "We believe that those who sacrifice for others have earned more than gratitude," Grover continued. "They deserve support and relief. Our passion is to deliver that support and relief to our Veterans. The Field of Honor is just one way for the community to show them what they mean to us."

The Veterans Field of Honor will be on display at the Rochester Common on May 29, 30, 31, 2021. Each flag can be dedicated with a $40 contribution to the organization. Each contribution includes a flag, a yellow ribbon, and a written dedication.
