ALFRED, Maine - State Police have charged a Buxton couple with a string of home burglaries in York County.

Troopers tracked down the couple after two homeowners in Dayton this week reported a suspicious man at their homes. One homeowner found a man inside his home and a second resident reported they were home when a man attempted to open their front door.

Arrested Wednesday and charged with 17 burglaries is 28-year-old Shawn Swenson. His 25-year-old girlfriend, Abigale Hall, received summonses on four burglary charges

Troopers say she drove him to some of the houses. The charges came after troopers learned that Swenson was attempting to pawn suspected stolen jewelry in the Buxton area.

Trooper James Macdonald spotted Swenson's vehicle on the River Road in Buxton and stopped it. The vehicle was being driven by Hall, with Swenson in the passenger's seat.

Also in the car was the couple's 1-year-old baby. Troopers searched the vehicle and located jewelry stolen earlier in the day from a burglary on the Pease Road in Buxton.

Swenson admitted to his involvement in at least 17 burglaries in Hollis, Dayton, Buxton, Scarborough, and Saco. Stolen were jewelry, tools, cash, and marijuana. Some of the stolen items would then be pawned and troopers have been checking with area pawn shops to recover the items.

Swenson was arrested and transported to the York County Jail where bail was set at $5,000 cash. He will make his first court appearance today in Springvale District Court. Hall will make her first court appearance on April 8 in York County Superior Court.

Troopers say the burglaries are drug related to support Swenson's prescription drug habit.
