FARMINGTON - A Concord man allegedly passed out in his vehicle refused orders to stop when an officer awoke him, instead attempting to flee but only making it about 100 feet before striking two Farmington Police cruisers parked nearby.
Bryan A. Rodd, 21, of Airport Road, was charged with felony DWI, reckless driving and disobeying a police officer after the incident occurred near the New Durham line early Sunday.
The bizarre traffic stop occurred around 2:10 a.m. when Farmington Police responded to Route 11 after getting a call about a man passed out behind the wheel of his parked car.
Two officers then located witnesses who pointed out the man who appeared passed out in a 2017 Nissan Altima. The vehicle was parked in the wrong lane of travel on Route 11 in Farmington, near the New Durham town line.
When officers approached the driver, identified as Rodd, they noticed the car was in drive. Then as officers knocked on the windows announcing themselves, Rodd awoke, and looked directly at one of the officers as the car rolled forward a few feet.
The officers urged him to stop and put the car in park, but he allegedly accelerated and drove about 100 feet before striking one cruiser in the breakdown lane and then the other, severely damaging both police vehicles.
He then continued on and traveled about one mile down the road where Farmington EMS saw him pull into a business on Route 11. The officers quickly pulled the heavily damaged cruiser off the road and both officers got into the least damaged cruiser and went to the business where they placed Rodd under arrest.
