Pennsylvania woman charged with toddler's death in Maine

MILFORD, Maine - A Pennsylvania woman was arrested today in the death of her three-year-old child in Milford on Saturday.

The tragic incident unfolded during the evening hours of Saturday as members of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office responded to a local business in Milford and located a three-year-old female deceased inside a vehicle.

The vehicle was owned by the child's mother, 40-year-old Kelly Brown of Havertown, Pa. Brown was located nearby and was detained by law enforcement. She and her child had been subjects of an earlier issued attempt to locate and check their well-being at the request of concerned family members.

Once the child's death was discovered, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

The child will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

Today around 5 a.m. Brown was arrested by the Maine State Police and charged with manslaughter. She was booked at the Penobscot County Jail pending her appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center.
