ROCHESTER - The Rochester man charged with fatally shooting a family dog after it bit a child living in his home has tentatively reached a plea deal with Strafford County prosecutors.

Lee Thurston, 33, of 11 Sheridan Ave, Apt. B., was arrested on March 3 and charged with felony cruelty to animals and reckless conduct.

Police say Thurston put the dog in its kennel after it bit a 4-year-old boy and then killed it using a high-caliber hunting rifle.

Frisbie EMS checked the injured boy, but he was not transported.

Thurston waived his probable cause hearing June 4, paving the way for his arraignment and indictment at the higher court.

Thurston is scheduled for an Aug. 17 plea and sentencing in Strafford County Superior Court in Dover.
