Police await final necropsy report before making decision in alleged animal cruelty case

Staff reports 1 p.m.

ROCHESTER - The investigation into a reported animal cruelty case at Amazon Park continues, but a preliminary examination of the deceased dog's remains were inconclusive regarding a cause of death, police said today.

The alleged abuse was reported on Monday around 5 p.m. and was said to have occurred last Friday.

The canine's remains were examined at the New Hampshire Veterinary Diagnostic Lab at UNH.

After a final necropsy report is released in about a week, police said they will determine whether charges may be brought or if the case is simply dropped.

In the meantime, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said the dog's owner and others close to the case may be reinterviewed.

"The case is not closed," said Thomas, who declined to release the type of dog or its age since the investigation is still ongoing.
