Police investigating early morning shooting near fairgrounds that leaves two injured

ROCHESTER - Rochester Police are investigating a Saturday shooting on Lafayette Street in the area of the fairgrounds that sent two to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say responded to the scene around 1:10 a.m. after receiving a call that a male had been shot in the leg. In addition, another male was being treated for an injury sustained from debris/shrapnel as a result of the shooting.

During that same time period, there were reports of fireworks and other noises coming from a residence on Lafayette Street near the fairgrounds that was determined to be the scene of the shooting.

Police taped off the area for several hours while they investigated the shooting.

Minutes after the shooting was reported a male patient at Frisbie Memorial Hospital was being treated for what he claimed was a gunshot wound, according to police dispatch reports, which also noted the car the man arrived in was riddled with what appeared to be multiple gunshot holes. The car has been impounded, according to Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham, who added the incident does not appear to be a random attack, as it's believed the parties involved are known to each other.

The incident is still being investigated, but no arrests have been made, police said.
