ALTON - The man critically wounded on Friday morning in an Alton shooting incident has died.
James Eckert died late Friday, according to a press release from the attorney generals office received around 5:15 p.m. today.
Meanwhile, autopsy results on Lizette Eckert, 50, reveal she died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
An 11-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in both killings.
The incident unfolded around 7:30 a.m. on Friday when a 911 call was received reporting a shooting at 76 Dobbins Way, a press release from the attorney generals office stated..
When officers from the Alton Police Department responded they found Lizette Eckert dead.
Also found on scene was James Eckert, 48, who had suffered more than one gunshot wound, officials say.
James Eckert was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The juvenile was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. on Friday after a search of the surrounding area. He had been charged under juvenile laws with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder but with the death of James Eckert, another murder count is expected.
Because he is a juvenile, the law prohibits additional information from being released.
Meanwhile, an autopsy to determine the exact cause of James Eckert's death is scheduled for Monday.
The area where the shooting occurred is near the New Durham line.
