DOVER - State and Dover police today are investigating the suspicious deaths of a mother and son inside a Dover Point Road residence on Tuesday.

The investigation unfolded around 9 a.m. as officers of the Dover Police Department responded to a home on Dover Point Road to conduct a follow-up welfare check on the occupants. Upon making entry inside the home, officers found the bodies of the two adult residents, Eileen Shevelin, 78, and her son, Thomas Wallace, 57. Eileen Shevelin was found deceased in her bed, and Thomas Wallace appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head, according to a release from the Attorney Generals Office.

Both residents were pronounced dead at the scene. At this time detectives are investigating this event as a potential murder/suicide.

Autopsies are scheduled to take place today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Concord.

While the investigation is still ongoing, there is no known threat to the general public at this time.

An additional release is expected once both autopsies have been conducted.
