ROCHESTER - Police are on the lookout for two shoplifters alleged to have assaulted a loss prevention employee as they made their getaway at the Milton Road Hannaford on Sunday.
Police responded to the Lilac Mall store around 4:40 p.m. for the report of an assault.
According to police logs, a female pushed a shopping cart at the employee as they tried to prevent the pair from leaving.
"She became combative and fled in a vehicle with a male," Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said today.
It was reported that the female had taken merchandise from the store and left toward a truck along with a male she was there with.
"After being asked to stop several times by two employees, the female became verbally aggressive, refused to stop and pushed a shopping cart at an employee, striking them," Pinkham said.
The pair then fled in what was described as a green Chevrolet Pickup truck.
The female was described in the police log as a brunette with a dark complexion in her 40s or 50s. The man was described as 6-foot tall, also in his 40s or 50s.
Since the pair used force in the theft they now face robbery charges if caught rather than shoplifting, Pinkham said.
