PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - The New Hampshire State Police have applied for a Superior Court Petition to conduct a Sobriety Checkpoint in the Portsmouth area this week and into the weekend.

The "Sobriety Checkpoint" is one of the most effective methods of detecting and apprehending the impaired driver, a State Police press release stated.

The program, approved by the New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, provides federal highway safety funds to support it.
