STRAFFORD - R. Denise Thorne, 86, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, at the Wentworth Douglas Hospital after a brief illness. Born November 1, 1931 in Sidney, Mon., she was the daughter of the late Robert Alling and Ruth (Merrill) Alling.
Denise attended the University of Montana majoring in music and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Denise met her late husband Charlie in Fairview, Mon., and after marriage they moved back to Bow Lake to operate Thorne's Country Store which they owned for 30 plus years. Denny enjoyed spending her Sundays playing the piano for the Bow Lake Baptist Church.
Denny and Charlie spent their retirement years between Bow Lake and Ogunquit, Maine, where Denny was active in the Ogunquit Garden Club and the Women's Club. Denny and Charlie enjoyed many years of volunteering at the York Hospital.
Survivors include a daughter Michelle Thorne; two sons Thomas Thorne and Chris Thorne and his wife Mariana; one sister Sally Dietsche and her husband Herb; and six grandchildren, Daven, Kyle, Annisa, Baylee, Paige and Chelsea.
Denise was predeceased by her husband Charlie, brother Merrill Alling and a sister Shirley Renders.
