BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Reginald G. Hurd, 89, of East Rochester, N.H., died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Nevada Veterans Home in Boulder City. He was born July 5, 1928 to Reginald and Alberta (Perry) Hurd. Reggie was the oldest of six children.
He graduated from Spaulding High School in Rochester, N.H. He was a Korean War Veteran.
In the 60s Reggie was co-owner of the Sandpiper Nightclub in Laguna Beach, Calif. This club specialized in our troops, who were not welcomed home during the Vietnam War. It was a safe place for them to go without being harassed. It was at this club that he met Martha Raye and Lee Marvin, who would come to show their support for our troops. His friendship with Maggie lasted until her death.
Reggie was hit by a car and had severe damage to his foot and moved to Texas to be with his sister Geri. He was a substitute teacher in Mineral Wells, Texas, before moving to Henderson, Nev.
Reggie is survived by his brother Harold Hurd and his wife Rita of Conroe, Texas; his sister Linda Hurd of Rochester; and several nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his brothers Gary and David, and his sister Geraldine.
Writing was his greatest joy and he had several of his novels printed.
