ROCHESTER - The Rochester Fire Department next month will host its first-ever Fire Safety Festival to educate the public about fire prevention and protection.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the department invites residents to the Central Fire Station, 37 Wakefield St., to participate in a variety of demonstrations including:
· Fire sprinkler efficiency
· How an arson K-9 aids fire investigations
· A mock vehicle extrication using the Jaws of Life
· Proper use of fire extinguishers

The Rochester smoke trailer and numerous fire apparatus will also be on site for residents to explore.
"I am excited to welcome everyone in the community to come and get an in-depth look at the diverse kinds of work we do as firefighters," Chief Mark Klose said. "The festival should be a fun and engaging way for people to learn about multiple aspects of fire safety."
Additionally, Papa Gino's will provide free pizza slices while supplies last. The public is encouraged to come and participate in a fun-filled day of fire safety.
