Rochester fire officials probe cause of Tonka Street blaze

ROCHESTER - Rochester Fire officials continue to investigate a Monday fire at a Tonka Street residence.

The blaze at 54 Tonka St. was called in around 5:05 a.m. When fire crews arrived they found a mobile home about 50 percent involved, with fire tearing through the roof.

The occupants had safely evacuated the building prior to arrival and were assisted by Rochester Police until Frisbie EMS arrived.

Rochester Firefighters operated three hoses to extinguish the fire, with tankers were used to shuttle water to the scene due to a lack of hydrants. According to firefighters, the bulk of the fire was knocked down in 20, but it took roughly three hours to fully extinguish the flames.

Rochester Fire was assisted by Frisbie EMS, Rochester Police, Somersworth Fire, Dover Fire, Milton Fire, Barrington Fire, Berwick Fire, and Lebanon Maine Fire. Sanford Maine Fire, Lee Fire, Wakefield Fire and off-duty Rochester Firefighters provided station coverage.
