ROCHESTER - A city man was arrested for driving drunk after the car he was driving drifted off the road and struck a utility pole late Tuesday night.

The crash occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Rochester Hill Road just north of Skyhaven Airport when the northbound vehicle drifted off the road, struck a utility pole head-on and rolled backwards into the woods coming to rest next to a chain-link fence.

Travis Barton, 43, of Rochester, was arrested at Frisbie Memorial Hospital where he was undergoing medical treatment for unspecified nonlife threatening injuries from striking his head on the windshield. He was charged with DWI and transporting drugs.

Barton was released on personal recognizance bail with an arraignment set for later this month in Rochester District Court.

The utility pole that was stuck sustained significant damage and had to be replaced by Eversource overnight.

The airbags in Barton's vehicle did deploy, however he was not wearing his seat belt.
