DOVER - A Rochester man has been indicted in a second-degree domestic-violence assault from May.

John Howard Davis, 41, of 336 Portland St., was formally charged with a single felony count in connection with a May 11 attack in Rochester.

According to court records Davis "did knowingly engage in the strangulation of another in that he did apply pressure to the throat and/or neck area of (the victim) with his hands causing her to experience impeded breathing."

Davis allegedly committed the offense while already facing a pending sentence or appeal in another case, according to his indictment.

The Class B felony could land Davis in prison for as much as seven years.

The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down Aug. 17 and released on Thursday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been presented to warrant a trial.
