DOVER, N.H. - A Rochester man has been indicted on felony domestic violence charges in connection with a strangulation assault in August.

Sharef Jackson, 34, with a last known address of 4 Downfield Lane, stands charged with second degree assault, a Class B felony, in connection with the strangulation charge alleged to have occurred on Aug. 16.

Court records indicate Jackson is also alleged to have committed a total of eight simple assault on his girlfriend the same day during which time he is alleged to have struck her in the face, pulled her hair three times, slapped her face twice, spit at her and threw her into a television.

Some of the assaults allegedly occurred on Downfield Lane, with others at an address on Norway Plains Road.

The felony charge is punishable by up to seven years in state prison while each of the misdemeanors carry up to a year in jail.

The February Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down Feb 18 and released on Tuesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that enough evidence has been shown to warrant a trial.
