Rochester man killed in late night head-on crash near Washington Street overpass

ROCHESTER - A Rochester man was killed late Tuesday night when the vehicle he was driving crashed head-on into a Freightliner box truck near the Exit 16 Spaulding Overpass on Route 202 (Washington Street).
Rochester and State Police responded to the crash around 11:20 p.m. where an investigation revealed that a 2013 Freightliner truck with a box trailer being driven by Philip Mclain, 56, of South Portland, Maine, traveling west crashed into a 2012 Cadillac SRX.
Police logs indicate that immediately following the crash the eastbound Cadillac caught fire and that 46-year-old Robert Barney of Rochester was entrapped. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A State Police press release stated that Barney crossed the center line into the truck's path prior to impact.
Mclain was not injured.

Route 202 was closed for several hours while an investigation was conducted.
Troopers from New Hampshire State Police Troop-A were assisted at the scene by New Hampshire State Police Troop-G Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit, New Hampshire State Police Collision and Analysis Reconstruction [C.A.R] Unit, Rochester Police Department, Rochester Fire & EMS, NH DOT, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, as well as National Wrecker.
