ROCHESTER - Police say a Rochester man crossing a downtown sidewalk was injured Friday when he was struck by a car that was rear-ended pushing the vehicle into his path.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Subaru Impreza driven by Jared Wood, 33, of New Durham, was driving on North Main Street around 1:50 p.m. and stopped for the pedestrian waiting to cross the street.

As Wood was stopped for the pedestrian, his vehicle was rear-ended by a 2004 Chrysler Sebring being driven by Jennifer Howard, 45, of Strafford Road in Rochester. The impact pushed Wood's vehicle into the crossing pedestrian, Edward Walker, 61, of Rochester.

The accident occurred just outside the district court.

Walker was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife-threatening minor injuries. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

That area of North Main Street was reduced to one lane of travel for a short duration while Emergency personnel were on scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
