ROCHESTER - Rochester Police will be offering a free basic self-defense course for women in May.

The class will be taught by Rochester Police Officer Elizabeth Turner and Officer Kyle Danie, who is also the Community Engagement Officer.

The self-defense tactics for the course were developed as part of the Rape Aggression Defense Basic Personal Defense System, s national program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques taught for women only.

The goal is to provide realistic self-defense options to women, regardless of their level of physical conditioning. The Rape Aggression Defense system is not a martial arts program, nor does it require students to be athletes in training to succeed.

The course will be taught on three days in May: the 11th, the 18th and 19th; all class times will be from Noon- 4 p.m.

This is a free program for women 18 and over and will be held at the Rochester Ice Arena at 63 Lowell St. in Rochester NH.
