ROCHESTER - We have expanded our browsing hours to accommodate our patrons.

If you feel like you're always reading the same couple of genres, we have a Nonfiction Challenge with some great categories for you to participate in and even win prizes!

Expanded Hours

We are aware that as more people go back to work and school, there is a need for us to expand our Pick-Up and 45 minute Browsing hours for your convenience. Our new hours are:

Monday and Wednesday: 10:00 -12:00 and 1:00-7:00

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 10:00 -12:00 and 1:00-5:00

Saturday: 9:00 -12:00 and 1:00-4:00

Walk-In Appointments Welcome

Sometimes you just need to grab something to read, watch or listen to and happen to be near the Library but forgot to make a browsing appointment. Don't let that stop you! Just drop by the Greeter's Station and we'll see how we can accommodate you.

Nonfiction Challenge

Eager for a challenge? You should participate in the Rochester Public Library's nonfiction reading challenge! The goal of this challenge is to encourage patrons to step out of their normal reading realms and try something new. To narrow down the choices, there are six categories to choose from: Astronomy/space, Finances, True crime, Self help, Gardening, and Cooking/food. The more books you read, the more chances you will have to win a prize! Check out our Main Floor display showcasing some books from the subject list for you to try. Classic Films

Reference Librarian, Beth, says she has been enjoying the comfort of classic films at home. If you're a classic film lover we have a variety of movies from every genre for you to enjoy. For those who aren't familiar with the history of great films of the past and want to try some, browse our DVD shelves next time you're here for your appointment or ask us for a recommendation. If you're not familiar with some of the stars who were famous during Hollywood's Golden Age, here are some suggestions for movies and movie stars to get you started.

Cary Grant did everything from screwball comedy to dramatic roles, try a couple of these to see why his career lasted so long: Bringing Up Baby, Arsenic and Old Lace, Gunga Din, Houseboat and Suspicion.

Katherine Hepburn is an actress whose career spanned decades and who starred in a variety of memorable films, try these that showcase her talents: State of the Union, the Philadelphia Story, Desk Set, African Queen and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

Bette Davis was an actress with a very long career, and we have quite a few of her films: Of Human Bondage, All About Eve, Now Voyager, Jezebel, the Man Who Came to Dinner, Dark Victory and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane

And lastly, Humphrey Bogart, who was a famous tough guy when he started his career and then branched out in some very classic films: High Sierra, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Maltese Falcon, the Barefoot Contessa and Sabrina to name a few. See him in African Queen along side Katherine Hepburn.

Teens

YA librarian, Donna, shares this info: Teens are invited to vote for their favorite Isinglass and Flume nominees this month. Go to the Teen page on our website https://www.rpl.lib.nh.us/teens to see how to vote.

SYNC for Teens: Teens who enjoy reading audiobooks will have the ability to download, read and keep a number of titles over the summer through a teen program called SYNC. Sign ups start in late April. Go to this website for all the details:

Children's Room

Story Time To GO: Story Time To Go continues with some new themes! Reserve a pre-packed bag with library books, a simple craft idea with directions, and a set of activities based on a certain theme by calling 332-1428 x2 or by calling the Children's Room at 335-7549. Kits are geared for kids age 2 through 6, but the whole family can participate. The new themes for Story Time to Go are: Birds, Bugs, Spring, and Space. Please let us know which theme(s) you would like, and for what age range

Visiting Appointments

Make an appointment to visit the Library to browse the shelves, read the newspapers or use a computer. Call 332-1428 extension 2 to set up an appointment.

RPL-To-Go is available for anyone uncomfortable choosing books in person. You can request books, DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks and even magazines. Just place items on hold in our catalog, call 603-332-1428 ext. 2, or email us at rochesterlibrary.togo@gmail.com with your requests.
