ROCHESTER - A Rochester woman was arrested on Sunday in connection with an attempted shoplifting that turned violent earlier this month.

Heather Markham of Rochester, no fixed address, was charged with simple assault, criminal trespass and attempted shoplifting.

The incident was first reported as an assault that occurred around 8 a.m. on July 3 when Markham allegedly hid a beverage and began to walk out of the Knight Street Cumberland Farms.

When she was confronted by a Cumberland Farm's employee, she threw the bottle at the female clerk, making a big scene in front of customers, yelling and swearing, according to a July 3 police log entry.

When asked to leave, Markham allegedly refused several times but finally complied.

Reports indicate she was with a male teenager at the time who wasn't charged.

No injuries were reported in the assault.

Markham was located on Academy Street on Sunday around 12:50 p.m., arrested and held at Strafford County Jail on $500 cash bail pending arraignment.
