Sanford FD gets federal grant to help replace firetruck

SANFORD - The Sanford Fire Department has received federal money to help pay for a new pumper engine that was built in the '80s.

More than $200,000 is expected to be disbursed to the department in the form of a federal Assistance to Firefighters grant.

As part of the overall state grant, a little more than $250,000 will also go to the Maine Fire Service Institute located in Brunswick to update other firefighting equipment, breathing equipment and fireproof clothing.

The gear will be used in conjunction with their mobile live-fire training trailer provided by an earlier grant. It will be used statewide.
