SANFORD, Maine - A 48-year-old Sanford man was arrested Thursday on arson charges in connection with a Wednesday fire at the apartment house where he lived.

Thomas McGinn was charged with arson in the blaze that displaced all tenants in the four-apartment structure. McGinn lived on the top floor.

The State Fire Marshal's Office responded to the fire at 38 Spruce Street in the early morning hours on Wednesday. Beside leaving the tenants homeless, the fire caused significant damage to the building, according to safety officials.

McGinn made an initial online appearance in a York County court on Friday, where bail was set at $50,000.
