ROCHESTER - Rochester Police said on Thursday they will hold a scaled-down National Night Out celebration at the Rochester Common on Aug. 3.
The celebration is held nationwide the first Tuesday in August to strengthen relationships between police and fire officials and the public.
Rochester's National Night Out event is family friendly and free to attend.
First responders from the Rochester Police and Fire Departments will be present, and both departments will bring a variety of vehicles for the public to see and tour, however many vendors that participated prior to COVID will not be in attendance, Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said.
The emergency vehicle tours are scheduled from 8-8:30 p.m. followed by a family friendly movie sponsored by Guyer Travel, which will also be handing out free back-to-school backpacks.
There will also be a few food trucks on hand for the event and movie.
"National Night Out is a unique opportunity for the community and members of the department to connect with one another, and I encourage everyone to plan on attending for an evening of fun and activities," Rochester Police Chief Paul Toussaint said. "We're all looking forward to renewing this annual tradition."
