Self-defense may have played role in Dover man's death, police say

DURHAM, N.H. - The New Hampshire Attorney General's office, State and Durham Police say a case of self-defense may be involved in the death of a Dover man in Durham.

Police were dispatched around 1 a.m. early Friday for a disturbance at 18 Edgewood Road where they found a deceased male identified as Michael Barrett, 22.

While the death has been officially termed suspicious, part of the investigation includes whether the incident involved the use of self-defense, officials say.

An autopsy will be performed on the body today to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Authorities further believe they have identified all of the parties involved in the incident and do not believe there is a current danger to the community.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Sgt. John Sonia at the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit at 603-223-8578
