Seven-hour Somersworth standoff ends peacefully

SOMERSWORTH - Somersworth Police and members of the Strafford County SWAT team negotiated a successful end to a standoff today that began early this morning.

The incident unfolded around 4:20 a.m. as police were called to 74 Crest Drive for a report of a despondent male who had a weapon and had reportedly made threats that he would hurt himself and a female in the home, Somersworth Police said.

A perimeter was established and negotiations were attempted.

The female inside the house walked out of the residence a short time later, and around 11:30 the male came out and was taken into custody.

He was taken to a nearby hospital.

A loaded .22 caliber rifle was taken from the scene.

No charges have been filed as a result of this incident.
