Soldiers Helpers needs vols for Tuesday mailing

ROCHESTER - Soldiers Helpers, a local group founded in 2003 that has sent thousands of care packages to servicemen and women overseas, needs volunteers for upcoming shipments on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

They need help moving 50 boxes from Rochester to the Milton Post Office where they will have the use of a cart to get packages into the lobby where they will be taped, labeled and mailed.

The snow date will be Wednesday.

Organizer Alice Greenleaf said she would be having a surgical procedure Jan. 8, so it is imperative to get the boxes shipped beforehand.

The boxes all weigh 25 pounds or less. There is an acute need for several vehicles and four or five volunteers to do the job. The packages all go to Bagram Air Base in Iraq where they are distributed to chaplains who pass them on to the troops.
