ROCHESTER - A Somersworth man was arrested for drunken driving and a host of other traffic offenses on Sunday after police say he ran a red light while attempting to elude police and collided with another vehicle.
Timothy Sprague, 32, of Somersworth was charged with aggravated DWI, disobeying an officer, reckless operation and several traffic offenses. He was held at Strafford County Jail on $10,000 cash pending an arraignment today in 7th Circuit Court of Rochester.
The incident began around 6 p.m. when a Rochester Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on Sprague's Buick Century on North Main Street in the area of the Shell Gas Station.
According to police, when the officer approached the vehicle it fled heading west toward Farmington. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but learned minutes later it had collided with a 2015 Kia Optima operated by Laura Harland, 38, of Rochester.
The crash occurred at the intersection of North Main Street and the off ramp for exit 15 of the Spaulding Turnpike. After a short investigation it was learned that the Buick had traveled through a red light and stuck the KIA that had just come off the turnpike.
Harland and two other occupants in the Kia were transported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital by Frisbie EMS for nonlife-threatening injuries.
Sprague was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital and later released to police for transport to the jail.
The Buick and the Kia suffered extensive damage and were towed.
Rochester Fire, NH State Police and the Strafford County Accident Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene.
