Somersworth teenager arrested in midnight gunplay incident

SOMERSWORTH - A Somersworth teen was arrested on Friday after a police probe into reports of a weapon being discharged during the early morning hours.

Elijah J Stewart, 19, of 153 Indigo Hill Road, was alternatively charged with felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm, a misdemeanor.

Police first became involved just after midnight as they responded to the area of Franklin and Green streets for a report of gunshots being fired into the air. Officers found several spent shell casings at the scene.

Due to the facts and circumstances of this case, the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit was consulted.

Later in the day, around 2:45 p.m., a motor vehicle stop was conducted and a subsequent search warrant was executed at 65 Green St., Apt. #1. Subsequent to that a Glock handgun was seized leading to Stewart's arrest around 6:20 p.m.

Stewart was held on preventative detention pending an arraignment in Strafford County Superior Court.
